Paul Armfield, bookseller,singer & song-writer, presently on solo tour through Europe will be playing songs from the new album Between the Covers – Songs for Bibliophiles. Accompanying himself on guitar and musical saw – peppered with anecdotes from his 30 years as a bookseller. He runs a small multi award-winning independent bookshop in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.After a few years in revolutionary eastern Europe, Paul returned to his beloved Island in the early 90’ to get married, have children and ever since to sell books and write songs. His first album Songs Without Words was released in 2003 to wide critical acclaim, his voice being compared to the likes of Cat Stevens. Running a bookstore by day Paul nevertheless managed to release more than ten albums so far. The album ‘Found’ was inspired by a treasure trove of old photographs, while 2020’s Domestic matched ten of Armfield’s own meticulously wrought linocuts of native plants to each track. It was recorded in Germany with a pan European cast of musicians and explored the concept of ‘home’, be it the house you live or the country you grew up in. |
